Bagdad Canto

17.5" x 24" / 2006 / Obverse Painting

Baghdad Canto

Blood, destruction, chaos, a “green” zone–and a swatch of rainbow hope–gridded in the form of a city or as verses in a poem…

A failed painting sat, exposed to the elements for many months–so long that my typical solvents couldn’t deal with the cured paint. So I applied paint stripper–a first!

I preserved the interesting areas of the original work and flooded the cleared area with solid red. Where the stripper touched the PETG “canvas” it created micro fissures/corrosion, in which the subsequent paint trapped air. This gas was invisible until I annealed the work–and it “bloomed” into a kind of froth. The paint stripper also distorted the PETG dimensionally, thus the wavy surface in areas.

This original painting is currently available for purchase.  It is framed in a thin-line, metal float frame that can be easily inserted into a more ornate frame, as desired.
