Cocoon
The Spirit emerges, leaving a husk behind…
This painting was my first attempt at incorporating a printed image into my work. I had a luna moth’s wings, which I applied first. Then I adhered the image, printed on tissue paper. The wings kept chipping off in pieces–each time I replaced it with a color, thus the multi-colored finished graphic element. The tissue tore while I was laying it down with a trowel knife–a happy accident that unified the two elements in a meaningful way.
This original painting is currently for sale. It is framed mounted on an brushed aluminum plate, frame floated in a black hardwood frame with a hammered texture.
