Bumbles of Joy…

I discovered the delight of bumblebees when painting The Birds III. I decided to create a painting that from far away looks like a texture but then, on closer inspections revealed the nature of the subject.

Even closer inspection reveals the fact that all the bees are different and that the holographic shards in the nail polish used to decorate their wings flash different colors depending on the angle of the light. For me, the effect is the abstraction of movement and the reward of engaging with the artwork in three dimensions.
